Andy Murray in pain after a mid-match ankle injury on his third-round Miami exit

Andy Murray has just posted on Instagram about the injury he sustained at 5-5 in the third set in his third round match against Tomas Machac in Miami. Although it looked like he pulled up on his ankle, he continued playing after receiving treatment from the physio and was only two points from victory. Ultimately, however, after doing some screening on his ankle, he says that he will be out for an "extended period". This spells bad news for what looks likely to be his last season on tour. By already stating that he plans to retire in "a few months" in a press conference in Dubai, this fresh injury is particularly heartbreaking for both fans and Murray. After this defeat, the Scot has admitted that he is "looking forward to the end", but remains ever-optimistic about bringing his best tennis at the closing stages of his decorated career.
